ENTER TO WIN a copy of Ward Against Death!

Dear Reader,

My name is Melanie Card I’m delighted to introduce my first novel, WARD AGAINST DEATH, a YA/Adult cross-over fantasy novel. This is the first book in the Chronicles of A Reluctant Necromancer series and will be released August 2nd from Entangled Publishing.

Ward Against Death is about a young necromancer, Ward de’Ath. He’d rather be a surgeon but because surgery is illegal (because of the religious beliefs in his world) and he’s been forced to fall back on the family business of necromancy. It’s set in a magical world where people can be brought back from the dead—although to be safe, it’s best only to bring them back for fifteen minutes—and princes rule the kingdoms, guided by men who can see the future.

Unfortunately for Ward, his first job as a necromancer isn’t a simple one and he gets more than he bargained for. The woman he wakes from the dead, Celia Carlyle, is insistent that she’s been murdered, and she begs Ward to keep her alive and help her find justice. However, nothing is as it seems—including Celia. And for a nobleman’s daughter, she sure has a lot of enemies.

One of the things I love about writing fantasy is the magic and sense of adventures. The world of WARD AGAINST DEATH has a Renaissance flavor of swords and crossbows, carriages and doublets, with the darkness of necromancy powered by blood magic. It takes place in the coastal city of Brawenal with an ancient underground sewer system and a powerful organized crime lord.

Join Ward and Celia on their wild adventure through Brawenal as they struggle to figure out who killed her, while trying to stay alive… or undead, as the case may be.

I had a great time writing Ward Against Death and hope you all enjoy reading it just as much.

~Melanie
