BotH:

I am so excited to feature you here on Books on the House, Debbie!  Thanks for being here.  I read in your bio that you’ve written 145 books!  That is amazing!  How do you come up with new and fresh ideas?

Debbie:

With three children, three dogs, one husband, and great fans ideas are all around me!

BotH:

Tell us about your new series, The Keyholders.

Debbie:

This Side of Magic is the first book in a series called The Keyholders with Tor/Starscape.  Three kids are chosen to be the Keyholders to a world of magic.  It’s up to them to keep the bad magical creatures out of the real world.  Luckily, they have a unicorn, a dragon, and a rat to help them.

BotH:

What were some of your favorite books when you were growing up?

Debbie:

I did love series.  The one I remember most was called Cherry Ames, Student Nurse.

BotH:

Of all the books and series you’ve penned, do you have a favorite?

Debbie:

Of course The Adventures of the Bailey School Kids books are dear to me because the first book, Vampires Don’t Wear Polka Dots, was the first book I ever sold.  But all my books are special to me for some reason.  For instance, Slime Wars and Slime Time are special because I wrote them with my son, Nathan.

BotH:

Before you go, would you tell us what you’re working on next?

Debbie:

I’m rewriting a story that I’ve been working on for a while.  In researching for this story, I actually fell out of a plane!  Writing can be very exciting and sometimes scary!

BotH:

Fell out of a plane?!  Wow.  Watch our Skype interview with Debbie to learn more about that adventure.

Thank you for being here, Debbie!
