Welcome to Books on the House for Kids and Teens, Ursula Vernon!
ENTER TO WIN a copy of Dragonbreath: Attack of the Ninja Frogs!!
BotH:
It’s wonderful to see you here on Books on the House for Kids and Teens, Ursula!
Ursula:
Thank you! Great to be here.
BotH:
Would you tell us about the Danny Dragonbreath series?
Ursula:
Well, the series focuses on Danny Dragonbreath, who’s the only dragon attending a school for reptiles and amphibians. He can’t breathe fire very well yet, so nobody believes he’s really a dragon. He’s always dragging his best friend Wendell, the iguana, off on hare-brained adventures.
BotH:
When did you first decide to become a writer and illustrator?
Ursula:
I’m not sure that I ever actually decided. Like a lot of things, I just kinda fell into doing it sideways. I think there may have been a point in college when I realized I wasn’t cut out to do anything else.
BotH:
You also create comics! Tell us about Digger.
Ursula:
Digger is the story of a very practical wombat (named Digger) who finds herself very far from home in a strange land full of dead gods, hyena tribes, talking statues, oracular slugs, and winds up having to save the day because…well…somebody has to do it.
BotH:
Any plans to combine your writing and comics to create a graphic novel?
Ursula:
The print volumes of Digger are technically graphic novels, and the Dragonbreath books are…semi-graphic novels? So, yes!
BotH:
What’s next for Ursula Vernon?
Ursula:
Well, there are five books scheduled in the Dragonbreath series, so that’ll keep me occupied for awhile, and Digger will be wrapping up hopefully in the next year.
After that, hopefully more books, and definitely more art! I have quite a few stories to tell, and once I have time (and hopefully a publisher interested in buying them)
BotH:
Good luck with ! I hope you’ll come back to Books on the House for Kids and Teens with your next book!
Ursula: Thank you for having me!
